ATS Carbon Clutches

ATS carbon clutches - Honda Single & Nissan twin, triple

ATS presents its carbon clutch produced by a joint development with ACROSS Corporation. ACROSS Corporation is a leading carbon manufacture with the most advanced CC composite technology in the world. The super light and heat resistant characteristics of CC composite gives a driver truly exceptional strength, response, and durability. Its operation is very smooth and easy on the transmission. From the street to the racetrack, under any driving condition, ATS carbon clutch enhances your driving performance and excitement.

Super shift response

The weight of ATS carbon friction disk is only 400g. It is exceptionally light

Super heat-resistance

Designed to resist over 2,000 degrees Centigrade (3,650 degrees Fahrenheit)

Super deformation-resistance

The deformation is 1/10 of iron. You always get a smooth & crisp engagement

Super easy operation

Operating ATS clutch is very easy, even when driving up a slope and in a traffic congestion

Super power transfer

10% to 30% higher transfer capacity than the metal clutch
For "Pro Spec" single with a specially carbon coated pressure plate, the torque transfer is 30% to 50% higher than the metal

Super durability

Due to the various favorable characteristics of carbon, the clutch has a very long life

ATS carbon clutch comes with ATS light flywheel made of carbon steel.

Replacement Parts

Carbon clutch is assembled after we receive your order. It takes one day to build and about 4 business days to ship it from ATS Japan to your place. Please specify the model (your car, triple, twin, or single), pressure plate rate, type of plate (standard, type r, or soft), and pressure plate and flywheel type (standard or CCM) if applicable when ordering. Please allow about 3 weeks for CCM special order.

Type of the plate

Description

Standard

Maintains even and smooth operation regardless of the disc temperature. Most popular choice.

Type R

The delivered torque increases sharply at or above a certain disc temperature. When severe operation like a racing start is repeated, causing the disc to heat above a certain temperature, the shuddering becomes noticeable and half clutching becomes less frequent. When discs cools, the smooth operation is restored. The Type R disc is suitable for drag racing.

Soft

Even though the horse power rating goes down by about 30 %, Soft type provides a stock like clutch operation without sacrificing any other excellent carbon clutch characteristics. If you mainly drive on the street and do not push your car to the limit frequently, this soft type might be for you. It is gentle to your motor, transmission, and driver. It also has less shattering noise.

CCM

CCM (carbon coated metal) pressure plate / flywheel delivers more torque than standard metal pressure plate / flywheel.. The carbon coating was first introduced to the pressure plate for our single carbon clutch (Pro spec). Currently the application is offered as an option for the pressure plate for ATS twin/triple clutches and for all the ATS carbon clutch flywheels.

Pressure plate rate

The higher the pressure plate rate, the more torque is delivered. Consequently, a clutch with a higher pressure plate rate has a higher horse power / torque rating. (Please refer to the rated horse power section above). However with a higher pressure plate rate, the pedal pressure also increases accordingly.

Heavy flywheel

A heavier flywheel is offered as an option for several ATS carbon clutches. A heavier flywheel (1) makes the drag launch or the start on a slope easier (2) reduces the engine harmonics vibration / noise significantly. However, please note that engine pick up speed goes down.

ATS full carbon triple clutch - our answer to the extreme drag racing situation
To completely eliminate trouble with repeated clutch operations in drag racing (drag launches warp iron parts), the pressure plate and the middle plate (floating plate) are also made of distortion free carbon material. The combination of specially designed pressure plate and new carbon composite of longer wear range has put an end to the fear of insufficient clutch disengagement.

ATS single carbon clutch " Pro Spec"
ATS single carbon clutches have gained a phenomenal upgrade and are to be released on December 1, 2003 under the name of "Pro Spec".

For the past several years since we released the first single carbon clutch, ATS has been constantly making progress to make it better. Still, we recognized that there were several occasions our single carbon clutch (old type 800kg, and current 1,000kg pressure plate model) did not provide satisfactory power transfer .
By changing the composition of the carbon disc and applying special carbon coating on the surface of the pressure plate (CCM), ATS has successfully increased the torque delivery by exceptional 25% to 45%. The new disc and the pressure plate will be used for all the single carbon clutch - 1,000kg, 1,300kg, 1,500kg, & 1,600kg. The torque transfer capacity of the new 1,600kg "Pro Spec" single will exceed some of our competitors' twin clutches.
With the CCM flywheel, ATS single carbon clutch is by far the strongest carbon clutch available in the market.

Note:  Single carbon clutch, compared with twin and triple carbon clutches, has a higher risk of slippage and wear down depending on the usage. Also the new single carbon clutch might cause shuddering at the engagement depending on the model of the car.

For the ultimate torque delivery and durability
                                      - ATS twin / triple carbon clutch
From the roadrace to drag race, ATS twin / triple clutch is a super weapon to win the race. (ATS recommends a triple carbon clutch for dragracing regardless of the horsepower/torque of your racecar)

Structure - aluminum cover, metal pressure plate, carbon/carbon clutch plates, CCM (carbon coated metal) floating plate(s), carbon steel flywheel.      [CCM is offered as an option for the pressure plate and flywheel].

Carbon clutch new version

For twin and triple carbon clutch for Nissan. Twin carbon clutch with 1,700kg pressure plate and triple carbon clutch with 1,600kg pressure plate have been added. The pedal pressure is same as that of 1,350kg. The 1,700kg twin is for drivers who enjoy hard race course driving and the 1,600kg triple is for ultimate drag racing / road racing set up. Please refer to ATS for those clutches. - Currently not in the production
