1) Its initial torque is moderately set
and the initial torque level lasts much longer than the metal LSD, but the
locking performance is as strong as the metal.
2) Carbon LSD has a mild transitional characteristic which enable the driver to
start acceleration earlier than the metal LSD.
3) Gentle transition to locking also provides a better acceleration control at
the apex point.
4) With ATS LSD oil, the noise is unnoticeable.

Carbon composite LSD development
background
Formula Nippon - the
ultimate battle ground for the Japanese formula car racing. The LSD for formula
cars requires the highest standard. Effectiveness, durability, and
controllability - in every respect it has to be the best. In addition, due to
the dry sump method used for formula car, LSD operates with only tiny scattered
oil particles. A normal iron plates cannot achieve its objectives in the race
under these conditions.
ATS took this
challenge and finally after long research and development has released its
carbon LSD for formula racing this season (2001). A higher friction coefficient
and heat resistance of ATS carbon composite disk leads to the revolutionary
performance. ATS' carbon LSD maintains its initial torque setting and locking
ratio under the severest formula car racing condition.
Applied this
technology beyond formula car racing, ATS carbon LSD bring you unparalleled
durability and maintenance of initial torque under any driving condition without
mechanical noise usually associated with a mechanical LSD.

Note: ATS recommends our metal LSD for FF cars, drag racing, & drifting competition.
** It is very important that ATS LSD oil be used with ATS LSD.
Our tests in Japan by several professional drivers shows the metal LSD scores a slightly better laptime than the carbon LSD for FF cars. However, for a driver who would like to have a mild LSD with little noise (with ATS LSD oil, there is little chattering or cranking noise), ATS will make a carbon LSD for your FF car. The application is limited to the models of metal LSD.
