Intec Racing

I think we can all agree that this round of Formula Drift was definitely intense competition, HOT, and tiring, but loads of fun. Stepping out of the car after a 20 hour drive from Seattle was shocking as we were immediately in 105 degree weather even after sunset. Despite the extreme weather conditions (even including a short lived rain storm during qualifying), everyone still worked hard, drove hard, and played hard.

For Intec driver, Walker Wilkerson, it wasn’t such a lucky weekend. Walker drove hard and had tons of fun on this track of triple digit entry speeds, but his well known purple S13 coupe was not having it. When a rear axel went out everyone thought, well, this is unfortunate.. Let’s fix it and move on.

Unfortunately this was followed with the other rear axel going out mid drift around turn one, as well as the transmission going out and the infamous clutch pedal snapping as he goes in for a run off the start line.

Having to walk away from anything unwilling is never ideal. Of course Walker was naturally extremely disheartened, yet he still stuck around and even stayed with the FD announcers the rest of the competition giving input and answering questions.

Northwest fans were on the same page – everyone wanted to see Walker advance into the final.

It’s hard to see a driver do well but a car fail, but we all know there’s still Irwindale for him to tear up and none of us can wait to witness it!

Finding ourselves at another Formula Drift Monroe, Washington brought us to many woes, but endless good attitudes, smiles, and hard core driving. Intec was able to respresent in the Fatlace car show with owner, Lawrence Ojas’ S14 and Ae86; co-owner, Joe Waldal’s G35; driver, Nick Schnell’s S13; Shane Mapili’s MRS; Hayong Chong’s G35; Ricky Tang’s RX7; and the Team Menace crew.

Our ProAm and Pro drivers all drove with passion and excitement. On the ProAm side, Andrew Larson with his red 350Z found himself loving another wall due to an unfortunate control arm snapping. We all love Larson’s driving style and he is often considered driving with “rage”. While his accident was exhilerating to watch, we all hope him the best in future ProAm events.

Rob Primo in his white and green S14 also experienced an unfortunate loss of a broken transmission. It’s never easy seeing a driver’s car in that kind of condition, but it’s encouraging seeing people like Larson and Primo sticking around, helping out, and keeping a winning attitude.

As the youngest Intec driver, Nik Jimenez made a comeback in his beautiful silver s13. We congradulate Jimenez as he placed 2nd in this  FD ProAm competition. I think everyone remembered why they love watching Jimenez drive. There’s an obvious love for the sport and hopefully we’ll see him at future ProAm events.

As far as Pro Driving, both Walker Wilkerson and Roland Gallagher made it through qualifying and into the Top 32. Unfortunately it was a rough day for them both and Top 16 wasn’t quite in the stars this time around. But yet again, they both parked their cars with great attitudes and keeping their eyes on the future.

Talking to Wilkerson, anyone could see his disappointment, but he still managed to keep his head up and smile on. It’s so exhilerating hearing how loud the stands get when they both start down the straight away!

Overall this entire event was a blast for everyone. The crowd was a record breaking size and not to mention the amazing enthusiasm and support coming from these Northwest based fans. The Intec team worked hard as Lawrence Ojas spotted for the drivers; Jun Kurihara was everywhere and doing anything to help and advise Walker Wilkerson; Robert Collier helped out in the pits to work on the car alongside Mike Clemenson and Brandon Heinemann; Tony Carreon offering a helping hand to the Nitto team; and last but most certainly not least, Rick Wilkerson’s dedication to his son’s driving career in providing transportation, support, advice, and leadership.

Now it’s on to Las Vegas at the end of next month! We thank everyone for all the support!

Dustin Mcialwain’s S14 @ Intec Racing

As some of you are aware, May has been a busy month. It’s been project after project and we’re all enjoying the wide variety of customer cars.  In this last week alone we’ve seen Lawrence on the dyno with a 13b swapped Datsun 510 sedan, FD driver Roland Gallagher’s teal 240sx coupe, and a turbo Nissan frontier, as well as regular maintenance and performance upgrades.  Today we had a G35 sedan for suspension settings and new spark plugs, a 2010 G37 for pre-tuning ECU check, as well as continued work on a RB25det swapped 240sx and of course the making of more knuckles! Come in to check out everything going on, ask questions, and learn more!

At it again, Pacific Grand Prix provides many amateur level and even pro level drivers with the time of day to practice, have fun, and show off their skills. While the prices may have risen since the last summer series, both drivers and spectators still managed to make it out. Endless thanks to PGP and their staff for the hard work and dedication; to Rob Primo’s  idea for PGP’s infamous drift days to begin with; to the drivers who make it worth while for the community to come out and support, learn, and socialize; to the spectators who show that support for both local and traveling drivers, as well as the track itself; and to all of the media who spend their time on the track, publicize the drivers and event venue, and ultimately put smiles on both driver faces and fans alike.

Intec Racing driver, Andrew Larson, killed it on the track despite minor technical difficulties. Half of the Intec “crew” came to support their driver as well as to provide a tire changing and pressure checking station for all of the drivers. Larson’s red 350Z was not only the loudest car on the track, but also one of the fastest as he reached speeds up to 50mph on turn 1’s entry.

Returning driver, Matt Panic, came with a little surprise. Moving away from his previously, easily recognized black AE86, Panic brought his “newly” bought and recently built mid-70’s Toyota Celica – first time ever driving the car, Panic “did work!” on the track.

Other drivers such as FATSACK Drifter’s Casey Torres in the champagne S13 hatch, TYGR Racing’s Tyler Grimsley in the flat black S13 hatch, and Gleb Antonov in the baby blue S13 hatch, all graced us with their presence. All three drove great with high speeds and lots of tire smoke!

While we may have found ourselves with slight frowns when those few drops of rain came by minutes before the official starting time, thankfully the day turned out clear and beautiful. Personally, I didn’t make it onto the track as “Official Media”, but that didn’t mean there was no chances for good shots!

Last minute preps for FD’s Long Beach round less than 18 hours before heading south. Dropping the tranny, finding the problem, endless hours of work, and a late night of applying decals by Ian Dillon – Walker Wilkerson is both dedicated and motivated.

Nothing like team work. Hard work paid off as he made the top 16 and continues to shoot for Rookie of the Year. Congrats to Walker Wilkerson for making it so far at Long Beach. Come Atlanta, everyone tune in for more and keep up the  support!
